I looked through older posts and haven't seen this one! I am using oil and my engine hasn't exploded yet and this has happened 3 times now. I get the pulsing alarm only when cold, and this restricts power as if the timing were retarded. It will alarm forever at idle but if I bring the engine up to half throttle for a minute or two, the alarm clears and the engine simultaneously takes off. It will run perfect all day after that. Why would it do that if it were a bad sensor, bad pump, cracked or leaking oil line, etc. No one I speak to seems to know if the automation is designed to restrict power under alarm or if the pulsing alarm is strictly oil injection failure. I'm pretty sure the oil inj. is ok, what does all this mean?

inspect the stator or better yet do an output test while the engine is missing and test the switchbox output. but first do the rotational sensor output test. but a bad switchbox and/or stator will cause the same problem

Funny you should say that. A friend asked a friend who's an outboard mechanic and he said stator too. does that mean the pulse alarm isn't just oil injection? Why does it clear up once warm?

cause that part is voodoo :) :) <br />the alarm module is looking for a changing voltage from the rotational sensor as well as input voltage pulses from the switchbox, follow the green wire from the module to the switchbox. if the module has a pulse missing ie the pump drive shaft rotatinal sensor has no output and it gets a pulse from the switcbox the alarm sounds. seems it also will work the opposite way as well. a bad stator a shorted coil or a bad switch box can cause that. sounds like its running on 3 cylinders for a bit. I would suspect a switchbox or stator is failing. some running output tests with a peak reading voltmeter will tell.
