Could anyone please confirm that I have the right timing specifications for a 1987 3.0L Mercruiser, Engine S/N 0B647030:

6 deg. BTDC @ 650 - 700 RPM in gear,
28 - 34 deg. Dwell

These are from Service Manual #10. I beleive I have the right one for this S/N, but have read some other posts where the specs were changed at a later date to 8 deg. BTDC.

By the way, it looks like I have the Delco distributor (If that helps). Thanks in advance (no pun intended)!

Jeff

If its a delco dist. and they didn't use the prestolite till much later that sounds right

The Delco distributor was standard for your engine, but if the distributor was replaced in the early to mid 90's, then it could have a Prestolite distributor.

Have a look at the first page of this Merc Service bulletin.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Bullet/95/95_11.pdf

Here is what the Delco distributor looks like.
