I am looking at buying a 1987 32-foot Carver Montego with T-454 MerCruiser inboard engines, 13,000# displacement, 12'4" beam. It is a nice boat. I did a sea trial with it today and have two complaints/concerns as follows:

1. It has a slight list to port
2. The owner said he cruises at 28 mph. The tachs were reading about 4000 rpms at this speed. I think he could have cruised at a lower speed and rpm on the engine. I am quessing he could have kept her on plane at about 3500 rpm at a lower and acceptable speed; but am not sure.

My questions/concerns are:

1. The owner says that it is listing to port slightly because of the way he has loaded it. Does anyone know if this boat was made with the list to port?

2. Does anyone know what speed and rpm this boat should cruise at?

Thanks!

4000 rpm is not a cruise RPM, 3400-3600 should be cruise RPM, I belive 4400 rpms is where you want to set the prop for that motor ( but dont quote me on that ). At 4000 RPM you'll be eatin fuel! and with that boat your gona have big enough fuel bill!
I have had a lot of boats and all of them seam to lean a bit one way or the other, if its not much i wouldnt worry about it

Hi
If its running right it will jump up on plain and with a bit of tabs it will run 3500 RPM with a speed around 24 MPH on GPS. WOT on that boat is 4400 RPM 36 MPH. If you are running into a head wind or big waves you will want to run @3600 - 3700 RPM.
I think a slight port lean is OK. I thought it was because I have a second fridge on that side but it might just be the boat. I hope that helps

another cause might be if you have a holding or water tank on that side that is full. or does it have two fuel tanks and one has more in it than the other?

I have a nice 1989 32' Carver for sale. To answer your questions, something is not right with the boat you mention. It should not list, and it should be moving much faster at 4,000 rpms. Mine does 22 mph at 3,200 rpm.

I am in North Carolina I would like to describe my boat. I am selling only because of my increasing age--now 80 yrs. old.
