1987 35 hp mercury carb help

I rebuilt my carb. I have not got it running yet. I think I need to make some adjustment. There was gas leaking out of the front of the carb??? my questions is...is this normal or did I just pump the bulb to much??? Do I need to make some adjustments?? Anything thoughts would be helpful, thanks Shawn

Sounds like the float is not adjusted properly and/or the needle valve is not sealing. You should be able to pump up the bulb until hard without fuel coming out of the carb.

I think it is after I try to start it when the gas is coming out???
