1987 4.3 GMC V6 oil pressure.

What is normal oil pressure range for this engine? This one is reading from idle 50 to 75 psi cruising. Oil and filter are new.

mine is 40idle to 60~65crusing

My old Starcraft was a 87,4.3.. It would idle cold at 50 and run up near 70 at higher rpms. After it warmed up good it was about 45 to 65.
The electric gauges never seemed real accurate anyway.

a faulty sending unit,
a higher viscosity oil,,,

sure it is, unless you have rigged up some non-stock setup

What would make the pressure run high?

everyone seems to agree that it is not high

I have a drag car and in racing applications I believe recommended is 10PSI for each 1000 RPM's MINIMUM, over that is better. Don't believe there is a max psi.

We have resolved the issue, the pressure relief valve in the oil pump was obstructed.

If the pressure were normal, I would not have asked the question.

You shouldn't be running on relief all the time.
Would make me wonder if someone has put a high volume oil pump on there.

High volume pumps are popular on cars, but not recommended for marine.
