Hello. I have a 50hp force/chryler outboard.
was cover for the winter form November until yesterday, like 5 months. i did change the spark plugs, fresh fuel, changed gear oil. went to the river and motor started with first try, ran here and there with no problems, stoped the motor for like 45 minutes while did some fishing, after fishing tried to start the motor and it did run, however when i push the control to run the motor forward the motor stoped, stared the motor again and it ran but when tryed to go forward again stoped.could not try agin because the battery got weak.
I am trying to find why the motor stop when I push the control to forward. Can it be my pitot that is broke? or??.
thanks for help

Re: 1987 50hp (force/chysler)

Likely is either fuel or compression related.

I suspect a flooded condition, caused by a worn out fuel pump diaphram, which leaks fuel into the powerhead and floods it.

I bet that if you let it sitt for a few days, it will run fine again. But will flood out if you let it sit for 30 minutes.

Rebuild the fuel pump, cheap and easy.

Parts available online or at a Mercury dealer.

stretched, bulged, or even tiny perforations can cause problems.

hi.i did noticed the the diaphram has some crack on one side and i am buyiing a new one,but have a question that will make my sound stupid but i need to ask.when i mixed the fresh fuel with the oil i did put 16oz oil on 3gal of gas,and by reading the motor maual i noticed is 16oz oil on 6gal of gas, meaning my mix has double oil, beside correcting the mix.do i need to clean carburator?
