1987 90 hp johnson?

from what i can find i think the motor i have is an 87.. its a 90 hp johnson model number J90TLCUR.. ser. # 7488843.. it's a V4 VRO.. this motor is new to me and i know nothing about it.. i think the VRO may have been taken off?.. if it was there, there would be a tank for the oil under the cover for the motor right?.. if it has been taken off what would be the proper mixture 50:1?.. looking for any info i can find on this motor i appreciate your help

J90TLCUR is a 1987 90 hp Johnson. The VRO pump would be a large black plastic component on the port side of the powerhead. It would have a fuel hose on top leading to the carburetors, and three hoses on the bottom which would be a incoming fuel line, incoming oil line, and a pressure/vacuum operating line.

If it hase been converted to pre-mix, there would only be one incoming line to the engine (gas). If the VRO is still functioning as a fuel/oil mixing component, there would be two incoming lines (gas/oil).

If using pre-mix, yes, the mixture would be 50/1.

The oil tank for the OMC VRO engines is a seperate tank which would be located elsewhere in the boat, NOT on the engine.

I would strongly suggest that you obtain a service manual to gain knowledge of its design and functions for that engine in order to avoid making an expensive mistake.
