I have a 1987 90 HP Mercury outboard that I just purchased and I'm getting ready to test it this weekend. My question is where should the water be coming out from on the back of the motor.

1. I do get water from the pee hole, and the engine seems to run cool.

2. There are two rectangular holes just below the cowling that seems to be the exhaust, but very little water comes out.

3. I'm assuming there should be a lot of water coming out somewhere, the water muffs that I'm using spry water by the prop which make it hard to tell if any extra water is coming out.

Where should I look.

Jerry

your perfect, now go fishing.

water isnt gonna come outa those two square ports till the prop is under water, those are exhaust relief ports. most of your water when running on the muffs will come out at the prop.

Torrance, Do you have gratings above the antiventilation plate on the rear of the motor above the prop? If so, water should exit there as well as through the prop hum. The water should be no hotter than lukewarm. If it is hotter than that at idle, you need a new waterpump impeller.
