I have a issue with my engine not starting. The spark plugs do not seem to be firing, the spark plugs are new and all that. I opened the cowling the other day and found that a wire was broke in half. I followed the wire back to where it goes and it says advance module on top of the box. It was a brown wire that is completely disintegrated all the way to the box. My question is would this be the issue that is keeping that from firing or do I have another issue all together. The engine died at idle at the lake and would not crank back up. I have researched that alot of people took it off and the part is no longer made. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you in advance!

I will include 2 pictures, the box the wire goes to, and where the wire went to. You will see a red wire hanging down, that is where the wire went to just so I knew witch one it was screwed into.

If the "advance module" is indeed the Idle Stabilizer, it is not needed. However, the idle stabilizer usually have two wires. If you look on the wiring diagram for your particular motor, you will see a high speed advance model, which might have only one green/white wire.

Merc did not use them on many models, so I do not know it's function. Hopefully someone will come along who knows how it works.

Idle stabilizer modules along with advance modules have 3 wires(red/wht-blk/blk). It will advance timing at WOT up to 6 degrees and it will not keep engine from starting/sparking unless shorted to ground and this will only be on 1 bank
