1987 evinrude 225 sputtering

just got this boat and motor,the first couple of times it ran great .today it seam as thought it is missing after half throttle.in nuetral its fine but when it in gear it sputters and will stall unless it is choked.I put new plugs and wires didn't help.checked spark seam to be good.the only other thing that happen was I ran it out of fuel but it ran good after that, the seperater was full of water I drained it no help.It seem to be using a awful lot of fuel.I don't know to much about outboard engines but I am good with stuff (if I can take it apart I can put it together) it idles fine, about 4000 rpms it'll bogg if I nail it it'll jump then die

sounds like time to clean the carbs, and install a rebuild kit. also change fuel lines. see the TOP SECRET FILE.

any particular brand kit I see they 2 different types on this site any preferance

just removed the cover over carbs water/fuel(more h2o than fuel) poured out at the loosing of the screws theres a seal missing around the bottom of that cover and someone has used silocone instead.
