1987 Force 125 gas consumption

Hello,
I have a 1984 Bay liner 1910 Trophy with a 1987 Force 125. The amount of gas this thing takes is unbelievable. It has a 26 gallon tank and I will go through that in a day. I run full throttle (around 30 kts) for about 3 miles out troll around for about an hour or two at half throttle and full throttle back for 3 miles. The boat is just about on "E" when I return. I have already pulled up the floor panel and inspected for leaks. Is this normal for this type of boat or does there seem like something is wrong? Please help! I cant afford 80 bucks in gas every time I want to go fishing "which is every other day".

I have a 32 gal tank in my 1987 1900 cuddy with a 125 Force. I will use about a half tank on a typical fishing trip which involves 2 people running out at half throttle about 2 miles out and 2 miles back. A lot of starting and stopping and moving from place to place all over the course of about 6 hours. Your Trophy weighs a bit more than mine. My gauge is not all that accurate and yours may not be either. Trolling can eat up a lot of gas however. Also depends on how much weight your are carrying. However I am pretty sure these motors where not built for fuel economy.

U have a tach? What kind of rpms at WOT? What pitch prop? Your hull/flotation saturated with water?How much weight U carring?2-3 men coolers a dog 2 kids???It all adds up.
I have a 21 with twin 85's and fish 8 miles offshore and back.Total about 20-25mi.and don't use that much.I have 17p props and if I switch to a 19p it uses about 25% more.
Running at full throttle will EAT lots.Back it off to about 4400. Yea Forces aren't meant to get real good gas mileage.Fill out the profile.U might be close to someone who can help.
Tell us about the rpms and such.J

at full throttle you're probably getting 1-2 mpg. back off the throttle a bit just enough to stay on a plane and you will get a little better mileage

Are you getting the proper WOT rpm range for your motor? If you can't reach that range and are lugging the motor, it won't last long, and you will use a LOT of gas.

Take a look at your fuel pump diaphrams. The engine will run with small holes or tears but the fuel useage will go through the roof.

I've never owned on outboard that got good mileage....they all SUCK fuel, but yours does seem just a bit high. My 115 Mariner (Tower of Power) will go all day on a 26 gallon tank and that's a good 20 miles of running at about 3/4 to WOT. So math wise that's about $75.00 for a full day of fishing and running.

That's really good.....
