I am having a problem with my water pump not getting water to the top end . It has a new impeller . I can prime the water jacket from the tell tale hole , then start it up, and it will pump water out of the exhaust after about a minute untill I kill it and let it sit for awhile . Then you have to reprime it again ! If you do not , no water will come out of the exhaust and the overheat horn will sound after about three minutes ! I have the thermostat out of it just to test the engine . I'm running it in a barrel and it has plenty of water in it . The motor runs and idles great .

Is the tub deep enough to have the water level high enough to reach the impeller after start up?

You know , you cannot Idiot proof anything ! After I posted my problem on this site , I thought about that and found a barrel about five inches taller and guess what ? It works ! The water has to be a lot higher on this Force than on my old Evinrude ! I have just bought this boat and motor and just assumed that if the intake was covered , it was enough . You were right on with your suggestion . Thank you very much !!
