Re: 1987 force 85 hp motor leg too tight

When I did mine, corrosion had caused part #38 (a plastic of some kind bushing) to pinch the #34 in really tight. Soaked w/PB blaster and drove it out with determined strokes of a persuasive hammer on a like sized piece of brass pipe. Slowly and carefully so you don't cause any gouging. Sanded, lubed (antisieze), and reused the plastic bushing. Swung so freely that it chipped my new paint on the stop.

So you hammered on top or bottom? And part #55 it is regular washer or lock washer?
Thanks for answer

I assume you said you took the powerhead off. I did mine when i rebuilt my engine. The upper sleeve was
stuck to the hole but not the pin so i left that one alone, the problem was the lower plastic sleeve was rusted to the king pin, so i cut it off and sanded and the new one came cut the whole length i assume a redesign so it doesnt pinch as easy. I hammered from the top on a big impact socket. You have to remove the square cap on the lower part of the king pin and bolts will probably break and youll have to buy a mount (the part the bolts screw into) like me. The washer is not a lock waser its some kind of plastic. If you search you can find a step by step from Frank Acampora. Dont feel bad its one of those not if but when it happens.

Go to search forum (top of page). Click on advanced search. Type in kingpin at keyword. Type in circle hook at username. Click search. Scroll down to Franks post.:) PS #55 is plastic, just pry it out.
