Hello all!

I am in the process of changing out my water pump housing and impellor. I have been reading through some past posts, but I am still confused. If I am correct, I place the impellor down first then the housing, and turn the drive shaft clockwise to seat the impellor into the housing. Someone also told me that I should place a small amount of grease into the impellor housing in order to make it go in smoother. Is this correct? I am also confused as to what side of the impellor goes down onto the gearcase. The impellor looks the same on top and on bottom. The key way goes all the way through, so it can go either way.

Thanks for any help.

Clay

Clayton,You are correct. The impeller can go either way unless there is an undercut(chamfer) on one side for an "oring."There is no need for lubricant between impeller and housing but if you wanted to use a "light film" of molybdeum grease for assembly purposes it won't hurt anything.Just insure that you turn it in direction of rotation when assembling as the grease may keep the impeller from righting itself.

Clay , The rotation is indeed clockwise as you are looking down on the flywheel.

it is a good idea to check for pits and corrosion in the impeller housing, on that engine the housing is cast alum. and prone to corrosion. if it is corroded replace is also.
