I'm considering purchasing a all aluminum 48 hilburn coastal cruiser with twin carbed 350 Chevys and v drives. I plan on using it for the occasional live aboard and cruising up and down the coast. The owner cannot answer my questions about speed and gph. What would a boat like this burn fuel wise and what kind of speed could I expect out of it. I'm hoping 14-18 cruise and 22-25 wot.

Your cruise and WOT speed expectations are based on a boat that can reach planing speed. Not familiar at all with this type of boat, but I would cut those speeds in half. On the plus side, a displacement hull usually gets good gas mileage. Would be better if you were running diesels, but I don't think that 1 mpg at cruise is out of the question. All guesswork, of course... but I do have several friends with large-ish boats.

It's a semi displacement planing hull. I looked at a similar style boat 60 foot with twin 454's that the owner claims 18 cruise and 26 wot. These coastal cruisers have a small vee in the front and a flat bottom with a very small keel.
