I have a 1987 Johnson 110 hp that is giving me the shakes. Either the reg/rect. is shot or the stator is giving me troubles... not sure what one yet????? So here it is everyone, at a range from 600-2000 rpms my tach works and I have very little charge (around 12.3-12.5 dcv), anything above that and the charge drops (12 or less) and my tach goes to zero. I had a batt charger on it last night giving my interstate a little charge and in the driveway tank I could have the tach working 100% of the time and the minute I pulled the charger the tach stopped working.

I tested the reg/rect. and found that to be questionable, but the stator didn't ring my bell as being correct either. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info.... Just not used to the outboard that's for sure! Just because the weekend is coming strong I ordered both parts. I got a great fluke from work and tested both the rectifier and stator and found better or at least more concrete results. I think I'm going to have to replace both by the numbers. I'm very open to any information though, nail bender by trade.

Change your recitifier first. I have the same engine that I rebuilt
5 years ago. When you are running wide open you will see your volt meter go from 12.65 at rest to 13 and then 14. Your rectifier is up on top in back of the flywheel.

If you replace the stator be sure to torque that big flywheel nut down to specs or you will be having a no start issue.
