Hi Guys,

I was wondering if someone could give me some insight regarding an issue I had this weekend with my Johnson 60hp. After fishing for about an hour (sitting, engine off) I went to go restart the engine to move to a different spot. Usually there is a chirp when I turn the key but this time is was a constant beep even after I started the engine. I drove the boat right back to the dock and it had a constant beep all the way back. The engine was getting oil because i could see the blue smoke and I was able to get full rpms out of the engine. The engine ran great even though it had that constant beep. I took the boat out again yesterday (Sunday) and it ran completely normal with no constant horn. Is there anything I can check or do I have to wait until the horn is constant again? Does this engine have SLOW? The impeller was just replaced at the dealer in spring. The model number is J60TLCUC. I have read that you can test the system in the following way:

Please disconnect all three connectors at the same time, and turn on key.
Overheat connector-
VRO pump connector picture 1230- See the tan wire has 3 or 4 wires
Oil tank connector picture 1232 - See the tan wire- only one

These THREE things make the warning horn sound.
Is the horn still on?

I'm just wondering if there is anything else I should be looking for because the horn isn't constant anymore so I don't think those tests would do anything. I appreciate your help!

sensor in oil tank can cause this. Disconnect and see if alarm stops

If it comes back on again I will disconnect the oil tank sensor. As of right now, it is working fine and I get the chirp when I first turn the key where as before it was a solid horn even when the engine was cold. Does anyone know if this particular engine have the SLOW feature?

Ok so I had the boat out today and it sounded like it was sucking air. The horn came on with a constant tone. I pumped the fuel bulb and the horn went off for a few minutes. Then the alarm came back on and the engine stalled and would not restart. Had to troll back into the ramp. I replaced the fuel line going from the back of the boat to the outboard after the alarm came on the first time (boat has an inboard tank). From what I can see, the lines going from the back of the boat down into the floor where the tank is located look pretty shoddy. I'm going to try to run it on an external tank to rule out a fuel line issue. Is there anything else I should be looking at or testing? Thank you for your help!

Check out the Engine Repair and Maintainence forum regarding testing your fuel delivery..

maybe you are experiencing an overheat alarm caused by fuel starvation (running lean)
