Just bought another bought, this one with a 1987 Johnson 90 on the back. Took it out for the first time and fired right up and ran smooth. Do have a curious question though. The engine sounds good all the way from IDLE to WOT but the Tach reads odd. For instant at idle it reads about what I would expect around 800 or 900 RPMs. But when it gear the RPMS jump up fast. The Tach is a 1-7000 RPM meter but is set up in 10-70 x100 instead of traditional 1-7 X 1000. So when its at WOT the needle goes all the way past the 70 and pretty much pegs out. I'm guessing theres a setting thats off on the guage. Anyone got any ideas? Other than that this motor runs great. Does feel like it pulls a bit sometimes at WOT but I think its just the surf doing it. Any help on this pesky TACH issue would be great! Hopefully its not a big deal and its just some jumper I need to move.

Doesn't sound like an outboard tach. You'll need one for an outboard and set it on position 6.

It was a marine tach, just needed to have the poles correct. Thanks anyway.
