I have a 1987 Johnson J20ELCUR that I`m trying to fix but I have no idea what the name of the part is called. I need the part where the spark plugs screw in as I have stripped mine doing a compression test. The only part number I came up with in the diagram is #0327673. Which is the cylinder head cover. I`m not sure if that is the right part since it's hard to tell by the diagram. Any help is greatly appreciated...Thanks!!!

For that much, I`m going to have to have it heli coiled. I thought the threads would be separate from the head and be in the cover. I dont have the boat with me now...I should of taken it apart or taken a picture of it. Also, that part number comes in for the 1997 model. Is that the same as a 1987? The part number I`m getting for the assembly is 0327671. Thanks again for the fast response.

Got the part number by punching in your model number, have no idea if it will fit a 97 model.

Re: 1987 Johnson-which part?

I find 327671 as the part number for the cylinder head for the 1987 20hp model

It will fit all the models listed HERE

It is the part which the spark plugs screw into. BUT it is $450. Helicoiling will be a lot cheaper!

335635 is the head for a 1990 and later models. It will fit THESE MODELS

If you helicoil your head, check to make sure your head is flat on sealing surfaces.

Thanks fellas...

I have a buddy that runs a machine shop so I can have him do the work. That would be the best option as I`m pretty broke and I cant afford to mess up the head more than it is.

Re: 1987 Johnson-which part?

I sent the head to out to my friends shop and he did the work for me. $20 compared to a $400 new head...is a no brainer. My other option was to buy a used one for $50 on ebay but I opted out of it. Does anyone know the torque spec of the bolts on the head? I ordered a head gasket and It should be in today and would like to get the boat running for tomorrows fish outing.
