Here is one that is puzzling me. I replaced a power pack that was not working properly. I started the motor and it works great. Fires on all cylinders. Runs great. I turned the key of and only half the cylinders shut off. I pulled the bungey kill switch and that made no difference. I had to shut off the fuel supply. I went over all the wiring I replaced on the power pack and grounds and all is tight and hooked up. Any one with any ideas........... Im stumped????

Either broken blk/yel wire, or, more likely, the pin in the amphenol connector for the bulk/yel wire got pushed out. Look at the connector and make sure all the pins are the same height and all the corresponding sockets are seated. Isopropyl alcohol helps these connectors slide together more easily.

Btw. It ran yesturday and turned of with the key. No issues turning off. We had ran all last night and today. Could moisture cause the kill switch and key not to work. Also with the kill switch bunjy not attached. Motor will not start??

ground the wire directly by the powerpack see if that cuts the motor.
I just use the choke to kill it in this circumstance.
Its possibly a powerpack fault

I hooked back up old pack power pack. Same issue. Could bad ignition coils do it?

no, did you ground the old powerpack directly to see if it killed the engine or did you just hook it up to the wiring harness black/yellow lead?

Black to yellow through connector. How would you ground it out ? Add wire into boot connector to power pack n ground out bolt while running?

yes exactly, try it as that will narrow it down to powerpack or the feed in line from the other side

Does your motor have two powerpacks. Back on those older johnsons with two packs the shift switch killed the starboard side. There was a blocking diode in that in one of the wires so it would not kill both sides. It has been a long time since I worked on one of these but some how that might be the source of your problems. I seem to remember that the wire to the starboard pack was blue or blue and white but don't take my word for it.

I grounded out the new power pack after I turned the key off for the motor. Grounding out that power pack worked. It turned off... Now what????

So i did the ground out of the power pack Direct and it shut down. So i started to start esting the key to the yellow and black. Key on open circuit motor ran fine. Turned key off closed the circuit. Both sides registered the same so it is grounding out the power packs. But when re connected it still runs on half the cylinders.

Do you have a wiring diagram? Sounds like the diode is open for the wire that grounds the starboard power pack or the connector that connects the yellow and black to the (blue/white or blue as I said I don't remember the exact color) is not making contact. Check all the connectors in that area and make certain they are tight.

That exact scenario occurred on my V6 with dual packs. One side kept firing after the key switch was turned off. The pack was a used original factory unlimited one that I had just gotten off ebay. Changed out that pack with another-problem solved. One ebay pack into the garbage can. I'd think that if the key switch is turning off one pack, that the key switch is ok.

Is it the new pp that's not shutting off? If so trade sides with the other pp if the problem follows then you know the new pp is bad. If it follows the good old pp then that one is bad. If it stays the same then start checking wires
