Motor has set for 12 years. Stored due to loss of lower unit and damage to mid section.

I have replaced the mid section and lower unit. New water pump impeller. New inline fuel filter and flushed lines. Fixed starter issues. Flushed gas lines with clean fuel and Sea Foam. Replaced fuel tank (old one had 1/2" of sludge on the bottom and a rusted cap). Disconnected oil blender and mixed my own fuel/oil. Don't want to take any chances. Fogged the cylinders prior to turning over. Replaced plugs. New batteries. Engine turns over and idled very rough for about a second then died. Started motor 30-40 times. Had to use primer 1/2 the time. Progressively started to idle smoother and would allow fast idle to be engaged, rev'd then died. Idled maybe 15-20 seconds before sputtering out (max). Idle and was able to engage forward and reverse for a few seconds prior to dying. My hopes are that the Sea Foam is getting rid of all the varnish in the carbs and cleaning them. Have ordered a fuel pump rebuild kit. Have not ordered carb rebuild kit ($50-60.00 per). Am I being thrifty? Is my theory on the Sea Foam sound? Should I just spend the additional $100 and rebuild the carbs?

rebuild that fuelpump, Seafoam will help, but I'd also clean em with spray carb cleaner, maybe drop the bowls and see how much varnish there is- Chance are there pretty dirty if the motor wasn't winterized
