I have an alpha one merccruiser with a no start problem. I have trouble shot the problem to the interruption switch. I have disconnected the wires to the switch and the boat will now start. Is there a way to test the switch to make sure it is the switch before I start trying to adjust the cables?

That switch is attached to a sorta triangle shaped activation device. When resistance on the shift cable is felt, the activation device swivels to activate the switch killing the ignition.

The device will swivel and move back to the center, when wiggled by hand. If it doesn't move back, it needs attention.

However, what kind of shape is your lower shift cable? If it binds, the switch will be activated.

Thanks for the response, cables are all good.I re-connected the wires to the switch and moved it around a bit. Low and behold she fired up. Do these switches fail intermittently?
