I have a 1987 Mercury 60 hp that whenever I trim it up the carburetor's leak fuel out the front of the carb throat. This is a 3 cyl 2 carb set up and the lower carb really spills out the gas/oil mixture. This is when the engine is off and the motor is trimmed up. The fuel appears to come through the main jet where it is press fit into the carb body. Is this normal and if not how do I correct this. I have cleaned the carbs and replaced the float valve and seat.

Thanks for any help,

What did the float look like? Did you adjust it according to the specs in your manual?

The floats had wear marks on them but I did a float test in a bucket of water and they were fine. I adjusted the floats parallel to the base as I've seen several times in these forums.

When you trim up you are changing the level of the gas in the carb which will allow the float to move. Its normal although if the float is set a little off it will cause more to pour out. If your engine runs fine and your really worried about it, just disconnect the fuel line when you pull into the dock and run the carbs dry. Problem solved.

Thanks all for the responses.I'll assume it's normal and re-check the float levels in the off season.
