Hello Guys, I got a few questions for you all I just got my DVA adapter today and started working on my motor. My problem is I got no spark on on any of the cylnders So i disconected the yellow/black wire from the switch box tried that still no spark then i moved to the blue and blue/white wires on the switch box and then checked them for ohms and i got nothing then i checked them for voltage and got nothing also, I checked the red and red/white wires for ohms and got 149 on them and the voltage was 32 volts all of these checks were done while the wires were on the switchbox. I then unhooked the blue and blue/white still no ohms and the voltage was then 214 the results on the red and red/white stayed the same what does this mean? The trigger checked out ok i think, there were 3 volts between the white wire and the violet and the brown and the white/black was 3 volts too. Can anyone help me with this THANKS.

When you say you gone nothing on the ohms test, do you mean you got zero ohms (short circuit, the same as touching the 2 leads of the meter together) or do you mean you got no reading, like an open circuit?

Chris........

If it helps, here's a couple of diagrams that should help you...

And the test results...

rx means 'resistance times'. If it says rx100, then you would set your meter to the 200 ohms scale.

If you're reading the manual and it says to check the stator with resistance, then I'm guessing you have either a seloc knee pad or a clymer bog roll... You really should use the Merc manual. Much better and clearer on how to check ignition systems in particular.

ok great i do have the clymer book and thanks for clearing that rx thing up i was using the right settings then. So what do you think the problem is and also were do i get the merc manual, and does the test results you gave me require the engine to be running it says 300- 1000 rpms just wondering thanks.

300-1000 is cranking or idling... Difficult to have the engine running if you have no spark. :D

For the Merc manual try eBay... I was trawling through it yesterday looking for a manual for another member and there are lots! 1176 to be precise! The Merc part number you're looking for is 90-86135...

The problem sounds like a low speed stator.. It could also still be the switchbox pulling the low speed stator readings down, but if you get open circuit on the blue to blue/wht... With the wires off the switchbox, try with the meter on the 20k range, and check blue to ground, and blu/wht to ground, and blue to blu/wht. If they are all open... Stator.
