Purchased this 87 mariner 40hp without the remote. Rope start works great, runs great. I was able to find a Yamaha 703 control box, hooked right up, started right up, but control buzzer sounded and stayed in. I know it's not overheated since it sounded right away. Been trying to find the temp senser, but have not been able to find it. I looked in the manual, but couldn't find it. Does have solid stream on tell tale. Oil injection was previously removed

Anyone know where the sensor is? Definitely not on the head. Or what color the wires to it are? Or is there something else I should be looking at to check? Thanks.

If it’s oil injection that’s causing it....you either need to have oil in the injection tank, short out the sender wires or cable tie the float up.
I’d be surprised if it wasn’t dealt with when it was removed though ?

Not sure your Mariner has an overheat sensor. If it did, it would be on the head.

I would be looking at how the oil injection was disabled or removed.

What is the serial number to go to the right place to look?

Tag says mariner 40ELT0 Code 6E9 L. Ser# 501642. Oil injection was removed prior to purchase. Started and ran fine on the rope start, didn’t overhead and had power. Not sure what’s left on the oil wiring and what would turn the buzzer on.

The oil level float in the oil tank controls the alarm. When oil injection is disconnected most will either short out the wires or cable tie the float in the up position.

Is the oil tank still on the motor? If it is, the oil level switch is on the bottom with 2 blue wires.

If you have an overtemp switch and 3 cylinder motor, here is the location or in a similar location on other motors with the switch;

Thanks everyone. I do have the 2 cyl 40hp. The oil tank was long gone so I’ll start tracing the wiring down to see what’s what. So it sounds like the 2cyl doesn’t have an actual overheat/temp switch, just the 3 cylinder?
