I forgot to make a note when I took this sender switch apart. Which way is the trim sender disc plate oriented? Solid silver portion on top or bottom?

So I don't think it matters if it's this way or upside down but the trim gauge is jumping to the trim range then going back to the top. The gauge is not staying down when the outdrive is down. I take it the black portion works as a resistor so to speak to that puts the gauge in the trim range. Any ideas on the cause of the trim gauge needle not staying in position when trimming?

The sender wiper moving to a portion of the resistance disc that has no conductivity.

With the drive in the fully down position, remove the sender, turn the centre until the gauge shows fully down and refit the sender.

My helper moved the wire and the gauge bounced so it appears to be a bad wire. C'est la vie, it's going in the water as is.
