Im new to boating and took my just purchased 87 VIP 2.3L OMC out for our first trip on lake yesterday. Everything ran and worked great. I was checking the boat over this morning and I noticed this on the upper gear case. Appears a plug or something has come out. I have no idea when it happened. What damage may I have done and what do I need to get to put back in there? Did water get in there and saturate my oil. Do I need to do a oil change/ Sorry for the all the questions but Im freaking out at this point.

FYI, that is the "do not remove" plug. Your drive needs to come apart

Thank you for the reply Scott. That don't sound good. Can you explain a little more detail please?

It holds a bunch of components inside the drive

With the fastener removed, you now have a bunch of loose parts in your drive

Thank you so much. I will be studying that thread for sure. I did search on youtube and there is a retaining plate for the plug and when it comes loose that retaining plate falls down into the outdrive. Bummer!

From what I know owning a Cobra - you don't need to dissaseble your drive. Take your drive off and fish out the nut from the water passage in side. U can get at it when the drive is off. Get a new bolt and re assemble . U should be good to go.
