I have a 87 Bayliner Caprice with a volvo penta AQ125A had it out last year a couple of times ran pretty good had it winterized then call the marina where it was stored inside for the winter to prep it for the summer.
They called me and said that it would not start so I brought it home. I had the carb rebuilt tune up with new plugs, wires, cap even tried to start it with a gas can so as not to use the gas in the tank.
after putting the rebuilt carb back on it started up and ran really good for at least 5 mins.
Took all of the old gas out the take and put in 10 gallons of new gas in the tank and tried to start it it will run for a few secs or not even start so I was wondering if anyone had any issues with there coil going bad? any ideas would help
Thanks

You need to find out if it is running out of gas or is the ignition spark going away. One thing that helps the Bayliner/Volvo start. Is to add a wire from the extra male spade on the starter solenoid to the + side of the coil. That way there is 12 volts delivered to the coil in cranking mode.

I would try starter fluid to see how it runs for a few seconds on starter fluid. If it runs fine for a few seconds everytime you give it a shot of starter fluid then I would look at carb and the gas supply. If it does not start every time you squirt in some starter fluid then look at ignition.
