Well I just got a new to me motor. see above...had to get it because my johnson 150 fast strike took a dump on my, and lots to fix. I am getting the motor from a dealer, and they have crompession checks at 130# on all 4 cylinders, lowered it in the water and fired it up, ran great, started right up. oil injection works good, they said the lower end is all tight and in good shape. shifts really smooth. Is there anything I need to be aware of to have them look at for this motor before i take it away from the place hooked to my boat??, I am new to outboards, and everything looks ok to me. Just look for advice.

I'm assuming it's a done deal by now. Congratulations Yamahas outboards have a very good reputation and it should give you good service. Since it's new to you test the alarms and maybe install temp or water psi gauge. If the impeller hasn't been changed in the last 3 years I'd address that soon. Also test the t-stats and make sure the poppets are not restricted by swollen grommets. Check the LU gear oil level yourself and maybe change it mid summer to look for water intrusion. Also make sure it has the correct NGK sparkplugs gapped to specs.

Ok, well I got the boat with new to me motor on today, and took it out for some runnin around. Seems to be runnin good, WOT is about 6100rpm and with 1 other person onboard I was about 37 mph. The boat again is a 1979 Steury 18 footer. The prop they put on is a 15 1/4 X 17 and this is a new prop they got for my boat after installing the motor. I did some prop wizard things online and was getting like 13 3/4 X 15 for speed or a 14 X 13 for watersports for the right prop, whitch confuses me because I am at Max WOT RPM with the 17 pitch prop. does the speed and RPM look okay for the motor and boat or should i go back to them and get a different prop on it?

Sounds good to me Tommy. 6K with a light load is what I keep hearing as ideal. Maybe you should post in props forum too.
