Hi Everyone,
I'm working on my neighbors 1987 Yamaha 115 (115ETLH) and am running into a bit of a problem. I've already thoroughly cleaned both carbs, but it is still having an issue at low speed. I was able to get the boat to plane out and take off and run fairly well at high speed by pulsing the choke with the throttle wide open. Once on plane, It'll run fine without pulsing the choke. I also can't get the engine to idle with the warm up lever down and shifting into gear is extremely difficult to manage without the engine dying. Pulsing the electric choke is the only way to get it to go. I've removed all jets and cleaned all passages and they are clear as best as I can see. I've had to open the adjustment needles for idle fuel much further out than the 5/8 turns out that I've found online to be the spec. I'm fairly certain there's a low speed fuel delivery issue, but I'm not sure where to look next. Would anyone have any suggestions on any hidden or easily overlooked jets or passageways on these carbs. I did remove the large screw in plugs on the top and have run carb cleaner through all obvious passageways. The upper sections appeared really clean as well. Could the carb sync be off? The throttle cam does not touch the roller at idle position. Would anyone happen to have a digital copy of the sync and link instructions they wouldn't mind sending my way??
One other thing, the previous owner did mention a bad coil, but I've confirmed they are all firing and also if that was the case, I wouldn't expect it to run better by pulsing the choke. Oh, and the timing appears to have been left alone as all of the tamper paint on the link arms appears untouched. There is one odd thing, the tach pegs to the limit and stays there regardless of actual engine rpm. Any ideas on that as well??? Shorted to ground??
Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!!
James
