Hello everyone,

First let me say that I am indeed a boatnub and any help suggestions would be great. I would like to ask for assistance or suggestions on a boat/motor that a friend of mine is trying to sell.

He has a 1989 19' CC Swan Point that is in excellent condition and a 1987 Yamaha 150 2 stroke V6 that he is trying to sell for 6500.00. The boat itself has been completely restored and looks verry nice, the thing that concerns me is the motor. What should I look for, what should I ask, what concerns should I have? I was told that the motor has 125 compression on all the cylinders and has had a routine servicing. The hrs are less than 300 and the motor runs verry strong still.

Is the 1987 Yamaha V6 a good motor over all or has it a problem for others? Is there anything I should look for, ask about or want to see when talking to him tomorrow?

Any help would be great and thanks.

That was a very good engine in 1987. If it has had good care it is probably still a very good engine.

Thx JB,

Does the compression being 125 sound good or bad and what would you suggest I check for when talking to him tomorrow?

125 compression is good yes, they are great motors .... just check if everything looks clean (no perished rubber, rusted bolts etc.) ...

Ok,

I will give it a good looking over this afternoon. I know a used motor is a used motor but knowing that this motor was a good one when it was new, makes me feel somewhat better.

Thanks again for the suggestions
