What is the best way to remove the 2 anodes that are located in the crankcase of the 70 hp motor. I have removed the anode cover and the anode grommet. Do I twist or pull out the anode?

Re: 1987 Yamaha 70 hp ETLH Anode Removal

How do you know where your anode's are? Just wondering. I have a 1986 115 etlj and i just replaced the impeller. I dont know where they may be located. I would imagine that they would be located inside the lower drive somewhere if there is any. I thought that the trim tab was the anode for the motor. I also have one on the bottom of the clamp on the outside of the transom just below the tilt/trim of the motor. I thought that the trim tab and the one on the clamp below the tilt/trim was all that there was. Am i wrong??

Yamaha Anodes

As far as I know there are anodes in the water jacket under the cylinder heads of some models.

Drew, if you go to the CRANKCASE CYLINDER section of the parts list for your motor you will see that there are 4 anodes. They are item number 13.

To remove the anodes you must remove the cylinder head.

I just found out that you do not have to remove the head on a 70 hp motor in order to changes the 2 anodes. They pull out after you remove the anode covers and anode grommets.
