Helping someone with a 150 Evinrude and it is wearing me out. The motor seems to be loading up at idle speed. Runs fine at WOT and all throughout the rest or rpms but when you idle for about ten minutes or so it cuts right out seems to be flooded. Gas and oil are in the breather and in the cowl and running down the mid section. We have already done the following, cleaned carbs, set floats, sync and link, checked diaphrams in VRO with a pressure and vaccum tester. Checked the fuel primer by pushing the key in while running it dies right down so I am assuming that it is not stuck open or leaking. Any ideas? If the spark were weak I am assuming that flooding fuel could be seen more in water around the exhaust but it seems to be more fuel visible on the front end. Looking for suggestions where to go from here! Thanks in advance.

Hi, Does the primer bulb pump up firm? I see you cleaned and set floats in carbs, but have you replaced the needle & seats etc, suggest rebuilding carbs, soaking, then fitting new kits could be in order. Also a problem I had on my 1989 Johnson was the carb bowls(plastic type) were warped and not sealing internally against the gasket, thus allowing fuel to bypass the needle and seat causing flooding at idle.

Have you looked at the condition of the spark plugs after a period at idle, this may give a clue as to which cylinders are enriched, which can be worked back to a particular carb etc.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Also might pay to have a good look at the Idle Mixture Screws.
If these are damaged you will have trouble trying to set the idle mixtures.
If the float needle and seats are damaged I suspect you would also get a rough running engine at working speeds as well.

Peter

Check the reed valves. Clean them and make sure they close properly.

outboard kiwi- All the plugs look the same. I cant narrow it down to one particular cylinder. Andyes the bulb stays tight. Peterf- there are no idle mixture screws on these carbs. There is no adjustments at all. I guess if you want to change something you have to change the jet. robbi I definitly do that. Guys thanks for replies I will recheck all that you mentioned and I think we are on the right track. Got to be carb or reed valves or fuel pump over pressure.
