Thank you, Folks for being here!

My first boat and men, Am I glad that you're here to torch-ire with a million of questions :) Kidding, I'll try to be reasonable.

OK, here I go:
Went to buy a Jet Ski but came back with 1988 Bayliner Capri with 2.3 Cobra and Cobra Out-drive instead. Since I knew zero about boats I took a friend with me, who checked the boat body and mechanical departments and we made a list "to fix". Boat was solid and Offer so attractive... so i took it. Last month weekends I spend on changing Starter, Gimbal Bearing, Exhaust Manifold, a few gaskets and water pump. Sure, some more small things, but who's counting! I fit in planned $350 and hours of free labor.
Was able to start the boat but still need to adjust 1. Carburetor (takes time to start when it's cold) and 2. Shift Linkage - were off when I got the boat.
So, if you'd direct me at where I can find instructions how to adjust those two, it would be great!
Also, I understand now that I NEED owner's Manuals. If there are any downloadable files? I was able to find only expensive books and not even sure if they're any good.

P.S. Can't wait to take my kids to the wild areas for Big Fish hunting :)

Well, I am around 5 miles from you if you ever need help. I am in Chatsworth.

Warning you though! I will probably give you grief for buying a Bayliner and an OMC Cobra! :)

Thank you very much! Grief? You will not be the first :)
I had 14' aluminum boat with 25HP about 35 years ago and I thought I know what to do with boats... until now ;-) Well, I needed something small and not expensive to take my kids to the water during the summer time. I'll keep the boat for a season or two and should know by than if I need a bigger boat to use at the ocean and lakes. That's the main idea on spending $1500 + ;-) I got the boat for a grand. Spend less than $400 on parts and mine, and friend of mine free labor hours. Now it is working like a charm but still need some adjustments. Additionally, I bought 70lb trolling motor ($300 new) and 2 12V marine batteries. Planning to install them in front and add a raise chair. Than the boat should be ready for a few days of fishing and towing ;-)

I note that front seats (bow) can be cut for more storage. Not sure if there are any safety reasons for not doing it. Any ideas?

Thank you for your offer one more time.

Stan.

I wouldn't cut anything. These boats(bayliners) need all the structure they can get plus there is no guarantee water that would get in there can get out. I wouldn't do it.

Ya,I hear you! But inside the seat storage sounds so attractive :)
By the way, are you a pro working for $$ or a boat lover?

I think I speak for Bruce when I say he's a stand up guy just trying to help a fellow boater/iboater out. ;)

BTW, As far as your cold start concern, I assume you are giving the throttle one or two WOT pumps to set the choke and add fuel before you go to start the beast, right?

Nope just a fellow boater that had a Cobra/Bayliner Capri in his past.

I have helped a few other iboat Cobra owners out in the past over the phone. Only problem is that my memory on these is fading fast.

I play golf at Porter Valley so I am up your way often.

Not really. No WOT pumps, no added fuel. Some mornings it starts really well, some it's just needs a dozen attends to catch a fire and than works/sounds like a charm. I'm trying to manipulate with a choke but i think that I will have do it again on water - from what I remember it's always different on water
See, I'm that kind of guy who needs everything to be perfect :) Not abscessed, but I don't like surprises when you're in a middle of nowhere.
And sure, I'm always glad to meat the ,,stand up guy just trying to help a fellow,, Maybe because I'm the one myself :) Maybe that's why I have so many friends? :)

Nice to meat you, Bruce! And nice to meat you, RogersJetboat454 with no name! :)

Nice to meat you, Bruce! Nice to hear that you're passing my area often. I'm about Chatsworth and White Oak.
If you'll decide to take a look at what I did to my Bayliner, I'll gladly show it to you :)

Mr. Bruce, Hello again!

Are you familiar with California Delta Area? Any info you may share on where to stay there at night and boat daytime?

Thank you,
Stan.

Never been there. I have a house up in Tahoe so if I am heading up north, I just go there.

FYI,
Standard procedure on most carbed boats is to give the throttle a pump to enrich the fuel, and to close the choke plate. Might save a little wear on your starter... ;)

Oh, I have a name... but it ain't Roger... Roger Weiman was the gentleman who made my boat out on your coast in Bellflower.
If you stick around and pay real close attention, occasionally my real name does get posted....

Nice to meet you Sastic,
Hope you a Bruce get your boat running in tip-top shape...
Erik
