1988 4.3 merc bogging badly

I have a 1988 4.3 merc 175hp 262 engine serial number c320958.
It will run perfect for a couple miles and then bogs out terribly. Sometimes to a stall and other times I can pump throttle and keep it going, the faster I pump the better it will run.

Can the fuel pump act up when warmed up to do this?
I was told the plug or coil wires can leak and cause this?
Also, can it be the floats.???
If I let boat sit a half hour it will run fine for a few miles and do it again..
Also, the shifting gets hard and doesn't want to find neutral when warmed up but works fine when cold?????? Hmmmm WTHGO

Need help from you guys on this one........

Have you changed your fuel filter/seperator latley ???

Hi, Thanks. This problem was happening before I installed the W/S filter.

Ayuh,....

You can hook up an outboard tank to test it,+ see if there's a Problem with your tank....

Here,.... This is even Better,........ I don't have to Type it.......

Any other people out there who might have ideas please throw them at me.

I will be going at this problem full throttle as I want to get back on the water. The weather has been too nice lately.......
