1988 4.3 OMC

Was just out running my 88 4.3 OMC. If I don't excelerate slowly it will bog, floor it like there's a skier back there and she may die. Should I start with the carb and fuel system since it's been stored soo long. I am running premium with sea-foam. let me know what to look at first...BTW if I finally get to full speed I only get 4000 RPM's out of her. When boat in nuetral and no load, revs like a new motor sounds great no hesitation, but add a load and she stumbles.

You have a carb problem for sure, pay attention to the accelerator pump, it sounds like the problem

Have a look down the carb (Choke plate open, engine OFF) and operate the throttle and see if you get 2 good jets of fuel from the accerlartor pump, if it's pumping good streams for a couple of strokes, it could just use a tuneup. With old wore out points, condenser, spark plugs, cap and rotor, no amount of good carburation is going to help. Then set the dwell (not just gaping the points), then adjust the idle timing and idle mixture, check the advance and see how it works then.

Don't forget to check the antisiphon valve, it is mounted on the fuel tank and if they rust internally they can restrict fuel flow. That was part of the problem I had with my FW a few years ago. My mechanic said some boat companies use a cheaper valve that corrodes and restricts fuel flow.
