Hello,

I have a 1988 48 spl and I recently replaced the lower unit from a 1987 48 spl. I took the boat out after replacing the lower unit and the boat idled fine, would start and soon as it plained, the motor would lose rpm and bog down (the lower unit was fine) the motor continued to do this for about 15 minutes. So I brought it back into the dock and found that one of the connectors for the fuel line near the carbs was broke. SO I replaced that and then took the boat back out. It did the same thing. SO I got home and realized that I did not pull the vent up on the gas tank (my first boat) SO I took the boat out again and when I placed it in gear and pushed the throttle down it would not rev up. The RPM only came up a little bit and the motor was really bogged down (with the vent open). I have an extra 48 spl motor the 87 mentioned from above, SO I replaced the fuel pump, made sure all the connections on the fuel lines were tight, replaced the gas lines from the tank to the motor and replaced the gas tank. The boat is still not running properly, it is still not increasing RPM as you push the throttle down. It will sit in the driveway and idle fine and rev up, but when under a load, (2 people with 12 gallons of fuel on a 15' Eagle 351 boat, it will not go...

Any suggestion?

Since you had to disconnect the shift rod located under the bottom carb, you probably dislocated something in the throttle or spark advance linkage. Remove the air box and move the throttle lever full forward (engine OFF please). The throttle plates in the carb bores should be perfectly horizontal. If they are not, you have a linkage issue. A service manual will assist you in putting things right.
