Hi Guys....the 2 braided ground wires from the stater have lost insulation about 2/3 down and are corroded almost to nothing. I don't want to go for a knew stater if possible. Does anyone know if I can splice (solder) two new wires to them without a problem. If resistence is a factor, does anyone know the values or how I can get them.

Hi,
I don't see why not.
I would clip a heat sink above the splice point
to protect the stator. Resistance is not a factor.

I soldered mine, and worked aftwerward. I still had an ignition problem though, so it got replaced with a new one. My reasoning was that if the wires outside were fried, the windings would be in bad shape too.

Thanks for the info guys. I have more to ask of you. What is the best gauge wire to splice on to the stator wires?? Also, I am trying to time this thing after the duel carb rebuild. Can work on cars but this is a bit different. How would I connect the two jump wires from a remote starter to turn flywheel. Selec says to crank until fly wheel hits mark. Any advice on "timing" you can offer is much appreciated....thanks again, Carl v

I believe I used 12 or 14 gauge wire, but only because that's what I had laying around.

As for a remote start, you'd jump across the starter solenoid. I always timed mine at idle.
