1988 60hp water flow problem

My '88 60 hp Merc has not ran in at least 5 yrs. when I bought it. I rebuilt the carbs (2) and it started instantly and seemed to run well. I quickly shut it down when there was no water coming from the little **** hole. I also replaced the impeller. What should be done to find out what the problem is. Good car mechanic-1st time with outboards.

1st thing when you put the impella in are the vanes faceing clockwise.and did you make sure the water tube was put back in. if thats ok take the pee hose offand make sure that its not plugged. then you can blow some air through that fitting to clean out any junk.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to just wait 'till next season to tackle this problem. Thanks again for the info.....Carl V
