Re: 1988 70 HP Reed valve question

My 70 hp does the same thing at specific rpms. I think that it is a frequecy issue with the steel reeds. Others I have talked with on these styles 70s have a specific rpm where theirs do it also.
What are your problems to make you think you need reeds?

Have you done a link and sync?
Have you set your timing correctly?

Dose it sound like it is popping/coughing back through the carbs. And did you properly set the floats ?

Re: 1988 70 HP Reed valve question

My 1990 spits a little fuel out of the top carb. Always has. The engine pumps oil/gas up to the top bearing. It is then recirculated back to the intake manifold to the top carb. When the engine runs, the top carb gets a small amount of fuel spit back into the carb throat. This fuel (only) spitting is normal. If you get fuel and air exiting the carbs, you could have a reed issue.
