Hey... New to The Forum and also new to the boat owning world as well.LOL

I recently purchased an 1985 Sylvan with a 1988 3 cylinder 75 Horse Mariner. The power trim worked just fine when I bought it 2 months ago. Now I have issues.. it does not always want to tilt up and down. it will work when it wants to. when it does go out I have to let it sit for quite a while and then it will work a little bit again and then stop. As of the last two days it won't go up and down at all. Doesn't click either when pushing the buttons.. I don't have a tilt switch on the motor itself either. But I can Hotwire it and it goes up and down . I'm assuming the solenoids are bad. any suggestions or thoughts on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
Dan

I would say you have no voltage going to the switch at the control box.-----Find the solenoids on the motor.----Apply the 12 volts there and see if they work.----Hard to think you have 2 bad solenoids !!

So I took some pics of the solenoids..... not exactly sure how to get direct power to them but when I hotwire it by touching the two nuts with a wire .....it does go up and down

So that proves that voltage is NOT coming from the switch at your control box.------Trouble shooting 101 to find out why.

do I need to replace the whole wiring harness from the motor back to the switch? Like I said I'm relatively new at this but I am mechanically inclined. I know it's a three wire set that goes to the switch. I'm guessing the switch might be bad. Don't know exactly how to test that though.... by the way I truly appreciate your assistance

So I ran a bunch of power tests... I have power to the switch and power all the way back to the solenoids but they don't do anything when I click the button. Made a 12 volt light and disconnected the wires from the solenoids to test them... soooooo.... does that mean both of my solenoids are bad
