1988 85hp force elec starter

my starter would not work at first. I tightened<br />battery cables and got one start. Then starter <br />stop rising up and engaging flywheel just spinning.<br />the next attempt partial engagement advance flywheel<br />about quarter turn.<br /> should I buy new starter ?<br />p.s. new battery had it checked anyway.

Hi Hellfish,<br />Remove and clean all conections to starter motor, also clean all battery conections. You need good clean contacts. Make sure battery is good.could be faulty soloid jump postive wire from battery to starter motor, If it works solnoidis at fault. if it does not work after these checks look at brushes in starter motor.<br />Cheers

Thank you gentlemen. I cleaned up all connections.<br />It seems to be starting fine. So far.

I had starting problem with my 70 hp force I had the deep cycle battery tested thought it was bad checked out as being good so put it back on the boat and the next day would not start . so put a car battery on it and its been satring good ever sence guess the deep cycle bat not goot for starting

Hi JB<br /><br />Looked at that post,very good points. Have not been able to get on site for along time as my settings had been changed,dont you love them kids<br />cheers.
