I have two props that came with my 85hp Force. I have checked over and over tying to find the stamp on what pitch they are. Am I as blind as a bat or do they not stamp the blade pitch on them?
Anybody know what the two prop pitches are for a 1988, 1700 Bayliner Capri Cuddy with 85hp Force?

Actually if you just click on the props ads above it will tell you the std prop is 13" 19P.

Prop been painted?
The stock prop has the pitch stammped between the blades.
Sometimes very faint,sometimes not.
Aftermarket(older has it there to just a lot more #s and new aftermaket has it near the hole for the shaft.
The Capri came with 2 prop sizes(I think) the cuddy was a 17 the bowrider a 19(again I think)I assembled a ton of them little boats, that was 25 years ago so the memory is faint!!

Thanks jerryjerry05. Looks like still original paint on both. I will have another look for pitch numbers. I think they are 17 and a 19. Like to know for sure.

I check again and no stamp on ether prop. They are both defiantly different.
That was the main reason I posted on Force and Chrysler section because I have never heard of Merc, OMC, or Johnson building props with no specs stamps. Man-O-man what was going on in Force 1988?
I guess I'll never know now?

I have an original prop on my 1985 - the number 17 is stamped on the blade - it took me a while to find it - stand right behind the prop - look on the edge of the blade right where it goes into the hub. odd spot. Pretty sure my dad's 1988 had a 17 too that looked the same.

Thanks but there is nothing on both props. Must be a fluke or a sub contract at that assembly plant.

Did you remove the prop nut and washer? There is usually a number on the inside hub either front or back. Stock early Force props were made by Michigan and the always had a number on them-- not necessarily diameter and pitch, but a number.

Had a chance to check out the prop on the boat and the spare. The one that has been on the boat is a 17P and it ran pretty gutless. I tried the spare today a 15p and got 3 more mph. The Baytliner 1700 capri cuddy is a heavier boat than it looks. Compression test is my next step.

No I don't have tach hooked up yet The rpm is a touch higher than the 17p but not enough to red line. It's top speed is 28 mph and the boat weight is about 1400. The Force 1988 85 hp runs good but doesn't have the power of a 85 hp.

Re: 1988 85hp Force prop pitch

The Force is rated at the power head where other motors were rated at the prop beginning in 85.
The Force isn't noted for its speed.
Its interesting to note that only 2 sizes are listed here at boats for a dual exhaust Force 85.(through hub prop)
15" and 17" The single exhaust motors have 3 listed 15,17,19".
As I understand it you can use a through hub exhaust prop on the single exhaust non through hub motor.
You can't tell about your setup without your rpm

Re: 1988 85hp Force prop pitch

I am going around the small engine shops up here at the cottage county trying to find the proper tach that match the other gauges. If not I will order a Tiny tach online.
The two props I have are the through hub type with a plastic solid cap that bolts over the top.
Thanks for the info steelespike, it makes a lot of sense to me.
