Not sure just what you are trying to do, but you need to keep something in mind. The early (77 and later) trim units used a 3 wire trim motor, up through mid-year in 1981. That system used a remote trim box, mounted under the rear splashwell of the boat, with a single solenoid inside (up only) After mid-year 1981, OMC changed to a 2 wire motor and the control box had two relays inside (one up/one down.) The two systems look almost identical but there nothing in the electrical system which is compatible- except perhaps the trim sender.
