Hey everyone,
I just wanted to send a note and some pics from the shakedown cruise for the Joint Custody. It was my 50th birthday and a fitting way to spend the day! After going through the entire boat, cleaning out cabinets, assessing the safety gear, trying all the systems (since this is the first time I've been to the boat with the shore power on), finally everything was ready to go. We cast off and out into the Patuxent River with our sights set on lunch somewhere on Solomon's Island where the river opens to the Chesapeake. Forty minutes of driving at about 30 MPH, at 3500 rpms, the motor sync system worked great keeping both motors timed together, and playing with the trim to get the best plane. Then we reached the Solomon's Island bridge and was stopped dead in our tracks by a cigarette boat race that took up the entire mouth of the river. With at least 400 spectator boats anchored around the race course, we had no choice but to slow down to idle speed and weave our way through all of these boats from the opposite side of the river than where we wanted to go. Two hours later (and a few try's of cutting across the course, but getting chased by the official's boats), we finally made it to Solomon's Island, docked and got gas, and had one of the nicest seafood lunches I've had in a long time. Thank goodness the boat races were over once we finished filling our bellies to the brim. So we cast off and it only took an hour to get back just outside the home marina. We stopped, anchored, swam, floated in a tube and enjoyed the sunset. What a perfect way to end the first 50 years of my life!
