Hi, new to this forum, and i just aqquired a 1988 Bayliner capi 19 , FOR FREE, the lady said it ran fine six years ago when her husband was disabled, and has been sitting ever since. She wants nothing to do with it, and said come get it, only known problem so far is that it sat under an oak tree for 6 years...... "Imagine the toll that took on the seats and vinyl" needless to say, it took 3 hours and alot of garbage bags to get all the leaves and acorns out, and the seats need to be replaced. Or can i find some sort of seat cover? If so any good places to look.
Secondly
What would my list of things to do be, for getting her back in the water anything i should know, or any personal tips and $0.02 :D

and if anyone could sho me how the oem top goes on this boat that would be great, i have all the vinyl peices with the snaps and pole but no clue how to put it on.

any help would be greatly apprieciated

Here's a copy from another post."Welcome to the zoo!!!
O.K. - new boat owner, let's just start with the basics.
Get the motor running first. Buy an OEM manual, no Clymer, no Seloc.
You will need - impeller, fresh gas with appropriate oil mix, new plugs, new battery. Lots of others along the way but this should get it fired - hopefully.
A set of water muffs too.
Once you get her purring then you should tackle the boats infrastructure.
You will find in the search function a wealth of information about anything you need to get your repairs done. But please don't be shy about posting them. I would suggest that you make additional posts to the restoration and building section. You'll get a lot more reader's there then in this Bayliner specific site. "

What type of motor do you have?
Since you cleaned out tons of junk from the inside is it safe to say that it sat uncovered? If so then you're more than likely looking at replacing the deck, possibly the stringers and maybe the transom itself. Before you go into panic mode 1 it may not be the case, just a little forewarning.
Patience when working on a boat will be your best friend. Tackle one project at a time - don't go jumping from one thing to another.
As far as your top is concerned I guess we're talking about the bimini? It's a pretty straightforward contraption. Two poles will attach to the gunwales with two straps going forward and two straps going to the stern. Do a Google search for your boat - might just find a picture of one installed. That should help you some.
Above all don't get discouraged. If you really want this boat then plan on spending some money ( called boat bucks ) doing a lot of sweating and cussing and wondering just what in the hell you've gotten yourself in to.
Some will say part it out and trash the hull because it will garbage. Everything is repairable - but you have to answer the question " is this the boat I want?"
Have fun - keep us posted on your progress.

If that boat sat uncovered for 6 years in PA, it has major problems. Not only did it get soaked everytime it rained, but ice and snow built up, and that makes the water that soaked in expand and crack gel coat and fiberglass.

Check the floor for soft spots, check the transom for rot from the inside and down in the bilge area. I'm sure you will find some. Also not a bad idea to take a 2" hole saw and cut a few holes in the floor to inspect the foam for water and stringers for rot. If all is OK, just epoxy the hole cores back into the holes.

You didn't mention if its an i/o or outboard and what condition its in. Don't try to start the motor until you read about starting an old outboard or inboard motor. Takes some work, and be sure to have it on water muffs to check the impeller to be sure its pumping cooling water.

How about some pics of the boat?

Ok thanks for the advice, ill be looking into that, the floor is not really spongy anywhere at all, actually its pretty solid, would i be safe to say that the foam may be good? Im trying to get some pics up here from my cell phone ill get them on here soon,

To answer your question its a force 125, I took the top off and the flywheel is off for some reason......I called the lady up and asked her why she said she doesnt know why but her husband has it in the garage on the work bench.........Why she doesnt know, and i cant think of any logical reason to take it off....she said it ran fine when they parked it. My question is what reasons would there be for taking that off?

Ill be going tonight to pick it up from them and bring it back and try to get it to putter over.

hmmm. only good reason is to do some band magnet or stator work. there is a link here on iboats somewhere that you should use on "waking up an old outboard". 6 years is a long nap

This picture is not my boat, but it will give you an idea of how the
vinyl top pieces go together. The snaps may not all fit perfect, but
the pieces should still fit together unless they are damaged.

Good luck with your boat!

Hey, I know this was posted a little while ago, but if you're still looking for seats, I may be able to help. You're not allowed to sell things on this forum, but I do have 2 bayliner seats from a boat of that era which I am going to sell. If you would like to know more either PM me, or email me at Dvandy21@yahoo.com

Not sure how far you have got with your seats, but I bought a complete replacement upholstery set from a company called www.copycatcovers.com the set cost me just $395, they were just the skins but I tacked them myself and saved over $2,000 that a local upholstery shop quoted me if they did it.:)

How does the material they use hold up against the factory vinyl?

I been looking along with a friend at boats he actually is looking for a smaller boat for smaller lakes.BUT I seen an ad for a 1988 Bayliner for $1,5000.00. Stopped me dead in my tracks. We live near Lake Supeior. The price just seems so low. Seeing you got yours for nothing..How do you like it so far? The one I seen has been stored inside.I doubt my friend will get this bigger boat. But maybe he will..?? Love a Bayliner just right and they have a toilet...
