I have a few questions and I am hoping someone with a bit more salt in their veins can assist me. Some of these questions are aimed at the boat itself so I will repost in the appropriate section.

The water that comes out of my outboard (exhaust) is very hot. Is that usual?

What is the best sealer to use on the transom? The molding is coming off.

My top end speed with two adults and two kids is about 34ish. That is with about 10 gallons of fuel. Does that sound right?

I currently am using a 13 1/2 x 19 pitch prop but would like to get more performance for tubing and skiing. What is the lowest pitch prop suggested to us?

Is the prop and standard turn or left turn on these outboards?

Sometimes when I start her up she fires right up other times I have to rev the outboard to get her to start. She always fires up but am curious why sometimes she fires right up and other times I have to rev the engine up.

I have also considered putting a larger horsepower outboard on but am leery because it says rated for 85 horse. Any thoughts? I was considering a 115 or 125.

What is the best way to get the oxidation off the paint?

Thanks so much for looking and your time. Happy Boating.

Profile?? You might be close to someone who can help.

The water that comes out of my outboard (exhaust) is very hot. Is that usual? Yes.It gets around 140deg.Test the overheat buzzer to make sure your not running hot.

What is the best sealer to use on the transom.Any kind of clear sealer will work.Use nothing cheap.

My top end speed with:Guessing your boat is a 17ft. 34 is a bit slow.Do a compression/spark test.
That OK,check the RPM at WOT. And post the results.

I currently am using a 13 1/2 x 19 :again need to know the RPM at WOT

Is the prop :They only make one prop for that motor. No left hand or counter rotation.

Sometimes when I start her :Just the nature of the beast.Always use the same procedures for starting.Fast idle, key in to choke and start.

larger horsepower outboard : The boat is rated for an 85 that is legaly all you should run.Possible ticket for too much HP.
Your transom might hold a bigger motor but it could also rip it out. Stay whith what you have.Or get a bigger boat.

oxidation off the paint?I use a commercial rubbing compound by 3M and a high speed wheel/buffer, be carefull you can burn the fiberglass with too much pressure.

Couple of other things;Don't over-oil the gas,get a factory manual, keep the oil in the lower changed.
Use a spray lube on the steering at the transom. The grease fittings keep them lubed(you might want to use a little heat to free up the grease)
Have fun boating.J
