Motor runs fine but takes a while to get up over 5K RPMs. Just doesnt have the get up and go it used to. Have replaced stator, trigger, switch box, rectifier, plugs, rebuilt carbs, new bulb and fuel lines. Noticed my #2 plug is much cleaner than the other 3. It has some carbon fouling but just seems to be to clean. It definately has a good spark and is getting fuel.

A friend of mine says it may be water leaking from the inner exhaust gasket. I see no signs of water on the spark plug. But then again it may be minisculed and is being burned in the combustion. What kind of job is it to replace the exhaust gasket. Does the power head need to be removed? Thanks for your replies.

did you adjust the idle mixtures on the carbs while you ran it in the water in forward gear?

Yup. Water I bet. VERY common on these older engines. Power head does not need to come off, however cleaning up the mating surfaces is alot easier if the power head is off. If you're going this deep, replace the exhaust jacket gaskets, and the water jacket gaskets around the head.
