1988 Evenrude 88spl rectifier output?

I have the 88spl and am only putting out 12.85 max while I'm up near 5000rpm. It puts out 12.52 while not started and 12.65 at an idol of near 800. I killed my 1 year old diehard battery while crabing with a 1 million candlewatt spot light the other night. Am I putting out enough or is something wrong?

Joe, when checking output you need to have a fully charged battery and no accessaries running. Also make sure the rec. has a good ground through the body.<br />If you still get the same readings, I would say your rec. is bad.<br />Also check the input voltage. The 2 yellow wires. Mine runs around 43 volts A.C.
