Good day y'all,
I've just come into possession of a nice outboard that's been sitting at least three years.
I was hoping to get a motor for my '61 Larson, but this beast is a bit more than she can handle.
I'd like to get it running to my satisfaction so I can get the best dollar for it and buy a nice motor for the Larson (50-60HP).
Please direct me to the best way to inspect, prepare and start the motor and what I should be asking for it when I'm done with it.
Thanks very much!!
:D

what size is the Larson? my 1968 18' is rated for 120. I would check the compression, if good, hook fuel to it, water via muffs or a tub, set the choke, and start it, if it fires up, shut it down, change the pump impeller, change the gear lube, if it don't start check for spark, if it has spark, then the no start would be fuel related, either way if it don't run, you would get more parting it out than buying parts to fix it so it can be sold as a running motor

Check the top secret files at the beginning of this forum and look for awakening a sleeping motor.

That was great information, thanks very much.

What do you think I should ask for it if it's in good shape?

I need to see if it will fit the '61, but it just looks like way too much motor.

I'll check the plaque on the boat as suggested elsewhere.

Thanks again all,
:hail:

It's a 16' Boat, not sure of the model. The Transom measurement is 21" and the Motor measurement is either 21" (bottom of engine bracket) or 23" (top of engine bracket) the measuring guide I have states "Inside top of engine mounting bracket" to measure the motor, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right.
Also, how can I be sure the boat will handle the HP? Can't seem to locate a placard on the boat for max rating.
Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure but think the 16' were rated less hp, so the 110 probably is too much:noidea: probably rated at 90 or less, just a guess. post a picture of the boat and someone may know the model
